October 9: Soyaya
West African music featuring Mohammed Shaibu (Ghana) on vocals, guitar and talking drum. Traditional and modern styles of Ghana, always with some surprises
October 16: Arturo Rodriguez with Bata Rumba
Master percussionist Arturo Rodriguez and his group explore the linkages between Afro-Cuban genres and their African roots. Their shows at Hidmo Cafe were big hits. Join us for a night of secular rumba and the sacred rhythms of bata.
October 23: Message From Guinea
Featuring master artists from Guinea’s world-renowned national company, Les Ballets Africains, Message From Guinea brings to life the vibrant dances and pulsating rhythms of several different West African ethnic groups. These artists light up the stage with a spirit of joy and a message of cultural unity that will bring you to your feet.
October 30: Halloween party – Pan-African Masquerade with Thione Diop
Celebrate Halloween with performers from different areas of Africa and the diaspora. Performers include Thione Diop and Yeke Yeke (Senegal) and special guests TBA. Come early for a special all-you-can-eat buffet of delicious Eritrean food at $13 a person!
